Your Pathway to Becoming Fluoride Varnish Competent — At Your Own Pace

This is a Record of Competence-led qualification — there's no exam and no NEBDN-fixed duration. You progress by completing and satisfying the requirements of your RoC, made up of Practical Competence Assessment Sheets (PCAS) and Supplementary Outcomes. Sage Academy guides you through a structured pathway across 12 weeks to keep you supported and on track — but you can complete it in 12 weeks or faster, depending on how quickly you're ready to build your evidence in practice.

2. Complete the Theory — Modules 1 to 3

Work through narrated video lessons, workbook exercises, and case discussions across all three modules: Maintaining Good Clinical Practice, Health Promotion & Disease Prevention, and Patient Management.

3. Submit Your Record of Competence (RoC)

At the end of modules, you'll submit your RoC evidence — including your PCAS and any relevant Supplementary Outcomes — for assessor review, with written feedback within 5 working days before you progress. Move at the pace that suits you: some learners clear each checkpoint faster than our 12-week guide, others take a little longer — what matters is the evidence, not the calendar.

4. Complete Your Full Mock Assessment

Once all three modules are complete, you'll sit a full mock assessment covering all assessment types — theory, practical video, role-play and portfolio — followed by a portfolio readiness review and assessor sign-off.

5. Build Your Practical Competence in Placement

Alongside your theory, you'll complete your supervised practical evidence directly in your workplace: a minimum of 5 applications on a dental model plus 5 on real patients under supervision, pre-application assessments for at least 3 patients, valid consent and accurate records for at least 3 cases, observed infection control compliance, and a simulated medical emergency.

6. Final Sign-Off and Certification

Once your workplace assessor and Sage Academy assessor confirm all competency areas are met, you'll receive your final sign-off and NEBDN Certificate in Fluoride Varnish Application.
